competence to safely operate, under supervision, a centre lathe.

Applicants must have reached the current statutory school leaving age

Good numerical and communication skills are essential including verbal and written command of the English language.

1- Explain the various parts of the centre lathe and their operations.
2- Explain how the centre lathe is setup to produce production pieces.
3- Apply safe working practices while operating a centre lathe.
4- Interpret simple component drawings, including the following features: parallel and stepped diameters, drilled, reamed or bored holes, knurling (medium diamond) and chamfering.
5- Prepare a centre lathe to produce production pieces, including the tools and equipment needed to machine parallel and stepped diameters, drill, ream and bore holes, cut medium diamond knurls, part off and face component.
6- Operate a centre lathe to produce production pieces to specification, including machining parallel and stepped diameters, drill, ream and bore holes, cut medium diamond knurls, part off and face component.
7- Maintain the centre lathe, tools and equipment as per manufacturers recommendations.
