BY – Family Learning QQI Level 3 – Sewing
This Family learning class will be run in the local school. Garda Vetting will apply. Learning as a family encourages confident, lifelong learners. Parents are teaching their children from birth. Family learning helps parents on their own learning journey while learning the skills of sewing.
This programme module aims to equip the Learner with a range of hand and machine sewing skills and to encourage the Learner to have the confidence to use these skills in their daily lives.
Objectives:
• To introduce the Learner to the art and practicalities of sewing by hand and machine.
• To interpret drawings and sketches and translate the information contained in them into completed craft items made from fabric
• To choose appropriate equipment, tools, stitches and process when marking, cutting, joining, shaping, manipulating, finishing and decorating the craft item
• To apply appropriate safety procedures when sewing by hand and machine
• To apply simple mathematical problem solving processes to estimate the quantity of materials required and list the cost of producing the craft item
• To facilitate the Learner to acquire an appreciation of the character and features of sewing on fabric through completing a number of simple craft items

QQI General Learning – 3M0874
No formal education or qualifications are required although applicants may have participated in primary and secondary education. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate a standard of knowledge, skill and competence equivalent to NFQ Level 2 when accessing a Level 3 programme.

Learning Aptitude
Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.
Previous Experience
Applicants must be able to demonstrate a limited range of knowledge, skills and competencies skills relevant to the course and be able to work under direction.
