The aim of the Level 4 Award in Environmental Sustainability Awareness is to develop learners awareness of the impacts of environmental change and the key sustainable practices that can be implemented at individual and community level.

This programme is delivered through 100% face to face and classroom delivery using a virtual learning environment (VLE).

If classroom delivery is not possible due to specific circumstances, tutor led online delivery may take place.

Level 5 Special Purpose award in Environmental Sustainability in the Workplace 5S21793
Applicants who have either successfully completed a programme leading to a Level 4 QQI qualification or can demonstrate the levels of knowledge, skills and competence associated with NFQ Level 4 will be eligible to apply for entry to this programme.

Level 4 Special Purpose award in Environmental Sustainability Awareness 4S21809
The programme is positioned at Level 4 on the NFQ. Applicants seeking entry must have achieved a minimum of a NFQ Level 3 Major Award or its equivalent prior to entry to the programme, or have achieved the relevant skills, knowledge, and competence through work experience. Learners within this category are assessed prior to enrolment to ensure they meet the required skills to undertake the programme.
Learners will not be expected to have prior knowledge of environmental sustainability on entry to the programme, but they will be expected to demonstrate an interest in the field.

As this is a Skills to Advance funded programme, learners must be defined as an ‘employee’. Under Skills to Advance policy, ‘employees’ are defined as those who work part-time or full-time under a contract of employment, whether oral or written, express or implied, have recognised rights and duties and are in receipt of pay for their service. Self-employed persons are eligible to participate.

The target learner group includes learners across all areas of FET provision.
The target learner group will include individuals who want to develop their knowledge of sustainability and to apply it in their personal lives.

On successful completion of the level 4 award in Environmental Sustainability Awareness learners will be able to:
1. Outline the principal effects that human activities have on the environment.
2. Examine the key national, European, and global measures that have been taken to address
environmental issues.
3. Identify the main environmental impacts of these issues and the challenges they pose for an
individual at a local level
4. Explore a range of sustainable practices and actions that can be implemented at individual and
community level.

Environmental Sustainability Awareness Level 4 Employability Statement:

The aim of this award is to develop learners awareness of the impacts of environmental change and the key sustainable practices that can be implemented at individual and community level.
Participants who successfully complete the programme will be more aware of environmental issues and will be able to make some changes to their personal practice as a result of their participation in the programme.
A range of units with content covering key sustainable practices are available, including:
1. Climate change, other environmental pressures, & global initiatives
2. Energy management & renewable energy; water conservation
3. Sustainable food, and food waste prevention
4. Sustainable consumption, the circular economy, & waste
5. Biodiversity & actions to take
6. Greening communities & greening your lifestyle
7. Generating a personal action plan – workshops
