Skills To Compete – Homecare Assistant
The aim of this programme is to enable the learner to acquire the knowledge, skills and competence to work as a Homecare Assistant or to progress to further and or higher education and training.
Employability Statement
On completion of this Programme, learners may pursue roles within the Health, Family and Social Care sector.
Applicants will be expected to demonstrate a standard of knowledge, skill and competence equivalent to NFQ Level 4 when accessing a Level 5 programme
Age Requirements
Learners must have reached the statutory school leaving age
Learning Aptitude
Good verbal and written command of the English language with good comprehension skills.
Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.
Previous Experience
Applicants must be able to demonstrate a moderate range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course, be able to work with responsibility and demonstrate the ability to work on their own initiative.

1- Patient Handling
Demonstrate safe techniques for moving and handling of people placing emphasis on the use of leg muscles instead of the back.
2- First Aid Responder
Demonstrate the required knowledge and skills to be a certified Frist Aid Responder
3- Care of the Older Person
Demonstrate with the knowledge, skill and competence to meet the full range of needs of older people in a variety of care settings.
4- Care Skills
Demonstrate the knowledge, skill and competence to care for clients in a safe and hygienic environment.
5- Career Planning and Job Seeking Skills
Plan and achieve realistic work goals
