Horticulture – Garden Planning
The Learner will be able to:
1. List the basic tools and materials required to plan the layout of a garden
2. Identify the factors that must be taken into consideration when planning a garden layout
3. Compile a needs list for a new garden plan based on initial discussions with a potential client
4. Identify limitations in terms of cost and space, based on the needs list, on the garden
plan
5. Draw a sketch linking all the client’s requirements
6. Draw a plan to scale taking account of space, proportion, balance and material requirements
of the garden
7. Identify the planting requirements taking account of scale and purpose of planting
8. Mark out the garden following the agreed plan
9. Apply appropriate health, safety and personal hygiene practices to safeguard against
accidents and hazards

No formal educational qualifications are required.
Priority will be assigned to unemployed persons with low skills or low educational levels who wish to progress their employment chances or achieve certification to an identified level on the National Framework of Qualifications in conjunction with an agreed career and skill development plan.
Age Requirements
Applicants must have reached the current statutory school leaving age.
Learning Aptitude
Basic numeracy and literacy are essential. Good command of the English language required in order to understand instruction and undertake required assessments..
