Interior Design (Graphic Design) Year 1
Programme Aim:
This programme aims to take a learner with no prior Graphic Design experience and teach them basic design principles and a strong understanding of Adobe Illustrator. Adobe Illustrator is the industry-leading vector graphics editor and design program to create anything from logos and icons to graphics and illustrations.
The learner will learn how to create high quality illustrations, logos and other custom artwork by hands-on training in Adobe Illustrator.
Learners will also have a portfolio of work to seek junior employment opportunities in the fields of graphic design or digital marketing content.
The Graphic Design Portfolio will also prepare graduates to progress to further or higher education Graphic Design courses.

Start Date: 09-09-2024 Hours/week: 25 Hrs 00 Mins Duration: 38 weeks
NFQ Level 4 or equivalent when accessing a Level 5 programme.
CERFL proficiency at B2 for access to Level 5 courses for those whose first language is not English
Mature learner entry requirements available via the local ETB pathway

Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate a moderate range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course, be able to work with responsibility and demonstrate the ability to work on their own initiative.

On completion of this programme learners will have the key skills, knowledge and competencies to
work independently and under supervision in a range of graphic design contexts.
The QQI Level 5 Graphic Design Award is also a pathway to access QQI Level 6 Programmes and above with Portfolio preparation for Digital Art and Multimedia; Web Design and Annmation courses e.g. Level 8 Part-time Certificate in Graphic Design(Carlow/Wexford Campuses SETU).
Under the Higher Education Links Scheme, Graphic Design QQI 5M1995 graduates can progress to a range of SETU Design and Creative programmes: Higher Certificate in Business; BA (Hons) in Design (Visual Communications); BSC in Multimedia Applications Development; Bachelor of Business; BA (H) in Marketing & Digital Media; BSC (H) in Creative Computing.

Graphic Design is a dynamic growth industry. In-house Graphic Design Skills is important for businesses. With the advent of AI there will be further growth and innovation in Digital Art/Multimedia/Web Design and Animation Employment.
