Skills to Compete – Prosthetics Make Up for Film & TV
The purpose of this course is to enable the learner to acquire the skills to work as a trainee Prosthetic Technician in the Film/TV industry for the Make-up Department. This course is aimed at teaching learners to design and create prosthetics that can be used for the make-up department in professional Film/TV settings in an immersive, project based, team environment. Learners will develop the skills to make custom prosthetics designed to fit individuals, and will learn to apply their own make-up Prosthetics using application methods used in the film industry today.

Start Date: 13-10-2025 Hours/week: 31 Hrs 15 Mins Duration: 7 weeks
While there are no specific entry requirements, Centres must ensure that learners have the academic ability to successfully complete the program. Junior Certificate or similar. Also good level of English language required.
Age Requirements
Applicants must have reached the statutory school leaving age.
Learning Aptitude
Have good verbal and written English. A track record in the beauty/make-up industry. Portfolio of previous work will form part of the recruitment process
Previous Experience
Previous experience in the film/television industry sector would be an advantage but not essential. Candidates may be beauty make-up artist that are looking to upskill to Film/TV Prosthetic Technician.

1- PROSTHETIC MAKEUP
Work with their partner and experience being life casted, Develop insight into what the life casting subjects experience is. Take utmost care and making sure the person being life cast is comfortable
Prosthetic Make Up Technicians and Make-Up artists are tasked with producing custom-made bespoke prosthetics that can be used on an actor/actress in a safe manner using current day techniques practiced in today’s film industry. One of the most Crucial aspects of a professional Make Up artist is to Life Cast an actor safely.
2- MANUAL HANDLING AND FIRE SAFETY
Manually lift and move objects and loads safely and to also deal with fire on an emergency basis. Also to emphasise the danger of fire, the importance of prevention and the necessity of urgent action when fire breaks out.
3- CHEMICAL SAFETY AWARENESS
Demonstrate an awareness and understanding of chemical safety in the workplace.
4- FIRST AID RESPONDER
Demonstrate the knowledge and skills as a certified First Aid Responder
5- SAFEPASS
Work on construction sites without being a danger to themselves or others. *Note Safepass certification is required for entry onto all film sets as they are deemed construction sites.
