Introduction to Furniture Upcycling

Introduction to Furniture Upcycling is a new part-time, practical programme for learners interested in sustainability and who want to learn how to upcycle pre-loved furniture. Learning is hands-on in a relaxed and supportive environment.
This course is suitable for beginners, who will be taught the skills of preparing furniture correctly and applying decorative finishes to achieve durable, high quality results.

Education Requirements
NFQ Level 4 or equivalent when accessing a Level 5 programme.
CERFL proficiency at B2 for access to Level 5 courses for those whose first language is not English
Mature learner entry requirements available via the local ETB pathway

Minimum statutory school leaving age (16+)


Learning Aptitude
Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.


Previous Experience
Applicants must be able to demonstrate a moderate range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course, be able to work with responsibility and demonstrate the ability to work on their own initiative.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, participants will understand how to prepare; paint; finish and creatively transform furniture pieces with confidence.
Introduction to Furniture Upcycling is a pathway programme to the more advanced Sustainable Furniture Upcycling, one day programme.

QQI Accreditation in Level 5 Materials and Finishes. Level 5 Materials and Finishes is a component module for learners interested in completing the QQI Level 5 Interior Design Award.
QQI Level 5 Interior Design Graduates have progressed on to SETU and set up their own sustainable businesses.
