Food Literacy: Cooking Up Confidence: Everyday Maths in the Kitchen

Course Overview

**Cooking Up Confidence: Everyday Maths in the Kitchen** is a practical, hands-on adult literacy course that develops everyday numeracy skills through cooking and food preparation. Using familiar recipes and real-life kitchen tasks, learners will build confidence in using maths in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Throughout the course, learners will explore essential numeracy skills including measuring ingredients, using fractions, converting weights and volumes, calculating cooking times, scaling recipes, understanding ratios and percentages, budgeting, and estimating quantities. Learners will also develop problem-solving skills by reading and following recipes, sequencing tasks, and making practical decisions in the kitchen.

The course combines practical activities with simple exercises to help learners apply maths to everyday life. By the end of the programme, participants will feel more confident using numeracy skills both in the kitchen and in other daily situations such as shopping, budgeting, and meal planning.
