Programme Aim
The aim of this programme is to enable the learner to acquire the knowledge, skill and competence in a range of sports, recreation and exercise activities to work independently and under supervision in a variety of sports related contexts and or to progress to higher education and training.

Start Date: 28-09-2026 Hours/week: 33 Hrs 15 Mins Duration: 46 weeks
NFQ Level 4 or equivalent when accessing a Level 5 programme.
CERFL proficiency at B2 for access to Level 5 courses for those whose first language is not English
Mature learner entry requirements available via the local ETB pathway

Age Requirements
Minimum statutory school leaving age (16+)
Learning Aptitude
Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.
Previous Experience
Applicants must be able to demonstrate a moderate range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course, be able to work with responsibility and demonstrate the ability to work on their own initiative.

On completion of this programme learners will have the skills, knowledge and competencies in a range of sports, recreation and exercise activities to work independently and under supervision in a variety of sports related contexts and or to progress to higher education and training.
Trainees will receive QQI Major Award L5 along with ITEC Certificate in Gym-Based Exercise (Gym Instructor award) and FAI Coach Education modules including;
PDP1, PDP2, 4v4 and 7v7 workshops, Strength & Conditioning workshop and National D Coaching license.
