Programme Structure
This programme is delivered through 100% face to face and classroom delivery using a virtual learning environment (VLE). If classroom delivery is not possible due to specific circumstances, tutor led online delivery may take place.
Special Purpose Award in Sustainable Supply Chain Procurement 5S22199
The aim of the Level 5 Award in Sustainable Supply Chain Procurement is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skills and competence to demonstrate an understanding of sustainable procurement and supply chain processes and consider the opportunities this affords for improving environmental and social issues.
This programme has been developed based on consultation with the EPA, SEAI, Irish Water, IDA, Enterprise Ireland and the Regional Skills Fora, and direct consultation with employers on their needs. In order to meet these needs learners must successfully complete the following module for this programme. For minimum award requirements, please refer to the QQI award structure for this award.
Training Facilities
The training facility must comply with:
1. all aspects of Health and Safety and Workplace standards (Safety, Health and Welfare at Work
Act 2005) and
2. all specific validation requirements as set down by the awarding body.

Start Date: 04-11-2026 Hours/week: 06 Hrs 00 Mins Duration: 4 weeks
The programme is positioned at Level 5 on the NFQ. Applicants seeking entry must have achieved a minimum of a NFQ Level 4 Major Award or its equivalent prior to entry to the programme, or have achieved the relevant skills, knowledge, and competence through work experience. Learners within this category are assessed prior to enrolment to ensure they meet the required skills to undertake the programme.
Age Requirements
Applicants must have reached the current statutory school leaving age.
Learning Aptitude
The target learner group includes employees, in all workplaces across all functions and roles, including management, team-leads, general operatives, administration, finance, etc.
Learners will not be expected to have prior knowledge of procurement or supply chains on entry to the programme, but they will be expected to demonstrate an interest in the field.
Previous Experience
Applicants who have either successfully completed a programme leading to a Level 4 QQI qualification or can demonstrate the levels of knowledge, skills and competence associated with NFQ Level 4 will be eligible to apply for entry to this programme.
Learners will not be expected to have prior knowledge of procurement or supply chains on entry to the programme, but they will be expected to demonstrate an interest in the field.

On successful completion of the award in Sustainable Supply Chain Procurement the learner will be able to:
1. Explain the main concepts of sustainable procurement and supply chains, in the context of current sustainability frameworks including the Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) Goals.
2. Summarise Irish policy requirements particularly relating to Green Public Procurement and the Circular Economy as they would apply to your work environment.
3. Identify the risks and opportunities that current environmental and social factors pose to procurement and supply chains.
4. Evaluate potential opportunities for positive environmental and social impacts through sustainable procurement and supply chains.
5. Review key governance practices required to implement sustainable procurement and supply chain management within an organisation.
6. Develop an outline sustainable procurement plan suitable for their workplace.
Sustainable Supply Chain Procurement
The aim of this award is to equip the learner with the knowledge, skills and competence to demonstrate an understanding of sustainable procurement and supply chain processes and consider the opportunities this affords for improving environmental and social issues.
The programme is intended for all employees in business and enterprise (large & SMEs) across all sectors of economic activity. Employees may be from across all functions and roles, including management, supervisory, team-leads, technical, and general staff. As sustainable procurement is a multidisciplinary practice, learners will require access to, and support from, a workplace to complete this programme. This programme will provide reskilling and progression opportunities for employees, it would suit in particular those working in procurement or supply chain including warehousing.
The Learners will not need to have previous knowledge of the subject area (procurement, sustainability) but learners will need the motivation to learn, have an interest in the area and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies within the programme.
A range of units with content covering sustainable supply chain procurement practices are available, including:
1. The main concepts of sustainable procurement and supply chains, in the context of current sustainability frameworks including the Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) Goals.
2. Irish policy requirements particularly relating to current procurement practice and the Circular Economy as they would apply to your work environment.
3. The risks and opportunities that current environmental and social factors pose to procurement and supply chains.
4. Evaluation of potential opportunities for positive environmental and social impacts through sustainable procurement and supply chains.
5. Reviewing key governance practices required to implement sustainable procurement and supply chain management within an organisation.
