Today marks an exciting milestone for Healthy Living for Everyday Life, as the project launched its new manual and online resource in Wexford.
Developed and delivered in Co. Wexford in 2025, this health literacy pilot project was funded through the ALL Collaboration and Innovation Fund.
Led by Elaine Banville, HSE Health Promotion, and supported by a steering group including Wexford Library, WWETB and Adult Literacy for Life the project is a great example of what can be achieved when organisations come together, share their expertise and support each other to make health information more accessible for everyone.
A key feature of the project was that the facilitators received training, with the support of Edel Finan, RLC, WWETB in adult literacy awareness and literacy-sensitive health promotion, strengthening their ability to develop and communicate information in a clear, inclusive and accessible way. The project set out to make health promotion information clearer, more accessible, and easier for everyone to understand and use.
The new manual and online resources capture the learning from this project, offering other organisations and communities an opportunity to adapt the approach to their own settings.
Edel Finan, Regional Literacy Coordinator said “This manual has been designed not only as a workshop resource, but also as a professional development tool. It introduces approaches based on health literacy, plain language and adult learning principles, helping facilitators build their confidence in making health information more accessible and engaging for everyone. For me, that’s one of the real strengths of the manual. It’s not just about what is delivered, it’s about supporting the people who deliver it. I hope it proves to be a practical and valuable resource for facilitators, organisations and the communities we support across the country”.

Because when health information is accessible, people are better supported to find, understand, and use it to make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing.
