Programme Aim
The QQI Level 5 Award in Fashion Design(5M3865) is a practical fashion design skills programme, unique to the South-East. Our students learn how to design and create a collection using Pattern Drafting and Garment Construction skills. Students will learn how to make their own design patterns and to alter clothes. The History of Fashion and Knowledge of the Contemporary Fashion Business, Printmaking and Embroidery are also taught to develop unique style skills and individuality. Computer Illustrated Graphics, in response to the digitalisation of the fashion creative process, has recently been introduced, to creating design sketches and the viewing of clothing designs on virtual models.
In the second year, students organise and showcase their designs in our annual Fashion Show or Photoshoot as part of their Work Experience requirement. Local Enterprise Office sponsored “Start Your Own Business and Social Media Workshops are offered in the second year.

NFQ Level 4 or equivalent when accessing a Level 5 programme.
CERFL proficiency at B2 for access to Level 5 courses for those whose first language is not English
Mature learner entry requirements available via the local ETB pathway

Minimum statutory school leaving age (16+)
Learning Aptitude
Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.
Previous Experience
Applicants must be able to demonstrate a moderate range of knowledge, skills and competencies relevant to the course, be able to work with responsibility and demonstrate the ability to work on their own initiative.

Graduates will be able to work under direction in a fashion design or retail setting, start their own alterations business or develop a fashion portfolio for third level Our graduates have progressed to the Limerick School of Art & Design,the National College of Design and SETU or successfully set up local businesses.
Under the Higher Links Scheme, graduates can progress to WIT Degree Programmes: BA(H)in Design (Visual Communications and BA(H)in Visual Art.
